Create Your Own Personalized Gift Mug

Featured here is a mug for the avid gardener, but this lesson can be applied to many other types of gifts like teacher gift, anyones birthday, wedding, housewarming, the list goes on!


Do you have a friend or spouse that loves everything about gardening- from studying every plant catalog that comes in the mail in January to picking their last tomato in late October? If you do, there are some really cute (and practical) ways to personalize a gift for them that they will have through out the year to remind them of the joys of gardening. This article will show you step by step the process of using Print-on Demand.

What is Print-on-Demand (POD), you may ask? Basically you're designing an item on a POD site, in this case Printful, that will let you customize and personalize items ranging from coffee mugs to t-shirts to back packs, print them for you (even if it's just one item) and sends the item anywhere in the world, so you don't even have to leave the comfort of your own home!


Decide What item you're going to customize. For the example here, I'm going to design a mug. I've already signed up for free at Printful, and you can, too, by following this link.

Once you're signed up you'll see your very own home page! Click on Product catalog, located on the lower right side.


In the new screen, on the lower right, click on Home and Living, and then on Coffee Mugs.


I'm clicking on the first mug, white glossy mug, and this will bring you to the mock up screen. Click on Start Designing.


The next step is to click on Clip Art. There are all kinds of ready made designs here, and for this example I'm using the Gift Ideas. I've added "World's Greatest" from the clip art selection. Then from Add Text, I'm adding "Gardener" underneath. For more information on how to use the mock up editor, watch this YouTube video

These 2 designs took me less than 1/2 an hour to create, and once you're done creating, Printful does the rest. They put your design on the mug and ship it out, usually in 3 to 5 business days! They'll even put a personalized note in the shipping so you can say "Happy Gardening" to the lucky recipient of your awesome, original, custom made mug!

This one was done with Upload File. I found these pretty sunflowers by googling "sunflowers" images. Any art or images produced before 1930 should be copyright free and are ok to use in this manner.


Some more occasions you could custom make items like these are:

• Birthdays

• Graduations

• Teacher Gift

• Holidays

• Congratulations

• Wedding with family name

• Pets-Cats, Dogs or other beloved pet (sneek a photo off Facebook if your friend is always posting pictures)

• Thinking of you- We'll always be friends, BFF, etc.
